Yesterday we visited Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria. Last year we managed to visit just one village there right at the border with Moldova but yesterday we made it to the capital. We were impressed by the sky over the city. Note what is advertised on the right. Yes, it is caviar. Transnistria is the poorest break away region teetering on the edge of insolvency of the poorest country in Europe.

The sky looks so dark and ominous but the street looks bright and cheerful. Such an odd contrast!

Yes, it as very unusual. The sky behind me (the other half of the street) was a bit brighter and it lit the street.

Looks almost like thunder storm clouds. Pretty.

If they are so poor there who is buying the caviar? Tourists?

Or is caviar cheap there?

It was just before a short thunderstorm indeed.
They hardly have any tourists there. Caviar is cheaper there than anywhere I have seen it, yes. They are very close with Russia (a major producer) plus I think they farm it there themselves too. Also, the poverty is not as bad there as it looks on paper I think because most of the economy is black and unaccounted for in the official numbers. I saw more top range Land Rovers there than I see on an average day in London.

This is only one half of this blue house. It looked newly restored but in a strange way, with a cheap plastic roof and weird blue-tinted mirror windows.

Or maybe it is my Sony and its auto enhance thing.
But it did look very unusual. The sky was so dark but the street itself so bright.

Maybe a bit too blue, but in general looks quite adecuate. It happens before a storm, when the sky above is already dark, but there is still enough side light to make objects on the ground so bright.

I generally find that my Sony oversaturates a bit. Maybe it does other things too but I know very little about photography and would not notice those.

Practically all contemporary cameras oversaturate. That's how we shoot and even how we see; it has become the part of our vision of the world. All meida production is oversaturated, all tv streaming. What we see from the very childhood - either printed or on screens - is oversaturated. So we already have in mind a sort of media coefficient: we see the picture -> we imagine how it is in reality.

So don't worry about the camera. Your traveller's photo-diary is remarkably interesting.
