Earthquake

An earthquake a minute ago woke us all up here. I do not know how strong it was but everything was moving quite a bit and there was quite a bit of noise as well. I think it was quite short, shorter than a minute. Some people went outside but we stayed in and I am going back to sleep shortly. People are worried about repeats and are saying that they often come in batches here.

Update: I found it on earthquaketrack, it was 5.6 magnitude (Romanians are reporting 6.1 magnitude) earthquake 5 km from Nereju Mic, Vrancea, Romania.

Yeah, everything is OK here, there was no damage. We went back to sleep and it was nice and calm for the rest of the night.

That's good.  Even a 5.6 can do damage.  I'm glad everyone is ok. 

Were there any after shocks?

No, there were no aftershocks (at least not anything noticeable). Our volunteers who experienced it for the first time are so excited, they can't stop speaking about it all day to today.

I can understand the excitement.  We rarely get earthquakes here where I am.  I think the last one we had was back in the 80s somewhere and it was only 3.0 or something small.  People talked about it for a few days after.

They had one of comparable magnitude every 2 - 4 years since 2004 here. Before the one in 2004 they had none for 14 years but the one before that (in 1990) was over 7.0 magnitude.

I had my first earthquake experience not so long ago in the south of South Korea. At first I thought it was the washing machine on spin cycle but quickly realised it wasn't that at all. Very strange sensation indeed. Hope you got back to sleep ok.

One would not mistake this one for a washing machine, way too much noise and movement. We went back to sleep shortly and the rest of the night was nice and calm. Our volunteers who experienced it for the first time are so excited, it is all they could talk about all morning.

Here in Costa Rica it is as usual as rain. Never strong enough, but very frequent. A soft sort of rock-and-roll: you sit and suddenly the world is beginning to shake. And you can't see your comp screen properly. And so you say to Him: "Stop it! Don't you see I'm working?" And He stops.

Once a 20-30 years it strikes stronger, and some people die in mountain villages (where houses are built by amateur constructors and could be destroyed easily). But normally it's just a bit of fun.

Ha ha, using earthquakes to stir your tea is quite up there on the scale of "tough". You have just a little bit left and you will get close to the vikings (and their descendants).

And the youth in the village even turned it into fun. It was a good excuse for them to get out of the houses at night and get together.
