In the morning we had some work to do in a nature reserve nearby. The entrance to the reserve is gated and one has to register at the "reception" to drive in. At the reception a young Moldovan guard was watching an interview with Ann Coulter on his laptop. I thought I heard her voice and just had to ask him.
- I am sorry, is that Ann Coulter you are listening to?
- Yes (he turned the laptop so that I could see the screen and there she was). She is smart. Are you American?
- No. No, I am not American.
I thought it was really funny. Deep in the woods of a nature reserve in Moldova a young guard is listening to Ann Coulter. And really liking it.
We had to check out when we were leaving the reserve and the guy was watching Dinesh D'Souza vs Cenk Uygur from The Young Turks. He saw me, turned his laptop towards me again and said "Dinesh is intellectually brilliant. Cenk is an embarrassment."
Wow, Ann Coulter's voice carried by the wind and echoing over the pristine wooded valley in the depth of easily the most forgotten country in Europe was an experience. For the outside world the US seems to be becoming this giant reality TV show (which can bomb you occasionally too) and people everywhere are really getting into it apparently.
