We keep the window open in the old house where we work when not in the woods (our "office") whether we are in or away. All day long the locals send their kids to leave treats for us, which they leave on the windowsill. This is what we usually see whenever we come back to the "office".

We get a lot of fruit and vegetables, walnuts, goose eggs, home-made yogurt, butter, sour cream, jams, freshly baked bread and, the best of all, freshly baked local pastries just out of the oven. Those are so good. They have all kinds, both sweet and savoury, cottage cheese and herbs, sheep's cheese, goat cheese, pumpkin, apple, walnuts, plums, sour cherries, cabbage, potatoes. I can easily have ten of them in one go.

We bring small presents when we go away and come back. They grow all this in their gardens and share some of it with us. We are working on garbage disposal and recycling system for the village, clearing illegal rubbish dumps, building a community centre for the village and are working on a reforestation project at the edge of the village.

Meanwhile, there's Twix and expired soda pop for treats at my job. So jealous. That all looks fabulous.

I just had three of those savoury pastries. Every day there is someone in the village who bakes them. Ilinca (the girl two boys fought over) brought us some today. They taste like they were baked in heaven.

Ah now I see why the boys fought over her.  She can cook.

Fantastic photo, fantastic life...

And it's a great advantage to be a big-size man: so much food can enter...

Someone calculated my BMI today and I am within normal range but closer to "underweight" so yeah, not planning to limit myself here.

In such circumstances, yes, it´d be a crime to limit yourself. At least, until the moment your shape is getting spherical.

I am 6'7", eating enough to turn me into a sphere will bankrupt this village.

There are neighbouring villages, I suppose. But yes, spherical would bee too much. Let´s stop at a decent oval shape...

Yes, there are. And we can bring them all under the yoke to sustain a giant spherical man.

And then they'll make you their "Big Chief"...

I really like the element of surprise in this. Very often they bring us something we would never think of eating ourselves and it turns out to be just the thing we needed.

We are looking at it and eating it all the time when we are in. After we clear it, it takes them about an hour to fill it with new stuff again.

Do they come to retrieve the dishware?

Date: 2016-07-24 12:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] topum.livejournal.com
Yes, we wash it and leave it on another windowsill for them to pick it up.
