This rather gothic looking hipster (or hipstery goth, I am really bad at this) was taking a picture of this fruits de mer stall in Le Marais for his Instagram and I thought he needed to be on my LJ.

In Paris

Hipsters: tight pants and tons of cultivated facial hair.
Goths: black clothes, usually loose-fitting, eye makeup, jewelry.
Steampunks: goths who have discovered the color brown.

There are also a lot of people who are just awkward, and I'm thinking this guy might be one of them.

I wouldn't say he was that awkward but he did look unusual, all black (even the handbag but yeah, a white shirt) and in high boots and long coat (summer and very warm, you can see people in t-shirts around).

A friend went to University of California Santa Cruz, and said watching goths in high boots and full-length black leather coats on the beautiful sunny beach was pretty funny.

Hipster Goth hybrid I'd say.  I mean I can't tell if he's goth or hipster.  He doesn't look like any goth I know but he is wearing black..He doesn't look quite hipster atleast not like any hipster I've seen.  But I've only really seen them in New Orleans playing the wash board on Royal Street or banjo or harmonica.  New Orleans has many street musicians.  Many tarot readers..many goths..many hipsters..many business types. They got all kinds.  Many drunk tourists too.

I miss the place actually.

I've been thee once, it is an awesome place.
London has all kinds too and then some, I am just bad at telling them apart. I remember a friend of a friend's niece once had a boyfriend who was a cyber goth, he looked like some awesome alien.

It might be a very lightweight microfiber coat - and perhaps he just really really loves it and finds it hard to go out without it. Habits do form.
I choose to think of him without a label - just his own mixed version human Be-ing.
I like that he's taking a photo of fruit.

He didn't look bad just unusual and I got curious.
I cannot think about things or people or anything else without labelling unfortunately. I classify, label and see similarities and differences automatically, this is how I learn about things and tell them apart from each other. All the talk about "no need for labelling" has always been meaningless to me unfortunately. Everyone of us is a human being and his or her own mix in the end but whenever I see someone I need to go more specific than just human being and more generic than just his or her own mix and it happens automatically. I need to see how people are similar or different from me or other people I know to learn about them and to relate to them.

You are a photographer. It may not be your trade but it is definitely your art, so I can understand the differences you need to see and understand. And the "feathers" we each decide to wear do speak of who we are, I suppose.

We've just found a way we differ, my friend. I thrive on the familiar, the sameness, the oneness, I suppose you might say. But please don't think I don't relish and appreciate the wide assortment of us. And don't think I am not enjoying what your classifications - not unfortunate at all! - are bringing us in the way of imagery and concept.

I think he is a Dr Who health and safety officer taking pictures because the seafood is not covered in plastic cling film....but there again the French bless them are a law unto them selves and perhaps he is simply contemplating buying some oysters so he can roger rabbit in his pad...

That's spot on!
Plastic cling film here would be a crime though. Brits! Ha ha.
There isn't a thing in the world that cannot be spoiled by plastic cling film. A bit of good old street grime on those fruits de mer on the other hand would not hurt big city dwellers much.
