New house and blood in the woods

So today was a busy day with no time for siesta. I bought an old house in the village, which we will turn into a community centre for the village and our project office. The land around it will be turned into a park and part of it will be used for the infrastructure we need for our project. We needed the land, renting here is difficult but the properties are dirt cheap so I just bought an old house for 2,000 euro.

There was a huge fight in the village today. Two boys fought over a girl. It was really old school and very brutal. We were in the garden of the newly purchased house when we saw our host's sister, a young girl, running and screaming "Everyone, quickly! Dragos and Ionut are killing each other there, near the woods! Quick!" And she went on running through the village. We quickly dropped everything and ran towards the woods. Some other villagers ran behind us.

When we reached the place we saw a circle of boys and in the middle of it Dragos and Ionut were fighting. The guys are both seventeen. The other boys, about the same age did not interfere, apparently the rules are that they can only interfere once one of the guys fighting clearly won and is just killing the other one without much resistance from him anymore.

Boy, these two young idiots were not kidding, they were covered in blood. Just as we approached one of them threw the other one over himself with the sound of cracking bones. As our host and I rushed towards the two idiots a couple of boys tried to prevent us from entering the circle telling us that the guys had to sort it out between themselves and that there was no other way anyway. I did not understand what they were saying at the time but I pushed one of them away and he fell and our host slapped the other one and yelled at him. We entered the circle and started pulling Dragos and Ionut away from each other but they just wouldn't let each other go and kept clinging to each other while still hitting each other. Other guys from the village joined us by then and it took us a minute to separate the two. Blood was everywhere and their faces looked like plates of minced meat. Some women from the village also came over by then and started yelling at the boys who formed the circle around the fight. Dragos and Ionut did not utter a word through all of this.

Both of them are in hospital and needed stitches. That was all the village could talk about for the rest of the day. The boys grew up together in the village and used to be good friends. Until both of them fell for Ilinca that is.

PS: Yes, Ilinca is a beautiful girl.

I wonder if the girl likes a boy different from either of the two and will go to this other one who wasn't involved? Knowing nothing else about this but what you've written, i prefer that idea.

So the girl thought that this escapade was really immature and offensive (the part where they thought that it is them who can decide by whatever means who she will keep being friends with and who she won't be seeing and not her) and have now decided that both of them are not welcome anymore at her house (this is how it works here, the guys come to the girl's house to spend time with her so that it is somewhat supervised by her family).

So it seems that your preferred option is likely to be what will happen, she is likely to end up seeing someone else. The two guys lost their friendship, both of them lost the girl and "gained" some serious damage to their faces. But boy will they have something to laugh about in ten years, ha ha!

Her family was very firm in delivering the message that they were no longer welcome. But this story will have continuation I think. It is unlikely that these two seventeen year old balkan blood Romeos will just accept this and move on without more stupidity.

I'm glad nobody was killed. Thank you for the information on the culture. When reading your post, I did think, "But what about what she wants? It's not like she'll automatically be with whoever wins."

She wasn't even aware this was happening. And the guys also did not explicitly fight so that the winner would get the exclusive right to see the girl. One of them just felt that the other one started being to pushy with her when he already was a regular guest at her house, the other one felt the opposite, their exchange got heated, they said things to each other after which the only option (in their mind) was to fight. But yeah, I was told that it would be very difficult for the loser to keep seeing the girl. So it was over who would keep seeing her, everything else was just a pretext. The way it works apparently is not that the girl chooses the winner but that the loser stops seeing the girl himself. The girl was not supposed to know the fight ever happened.

Boys fight here. They go to a village dance at some neighbouring village and often fight with the local boys there. Seeing a couple of boys with black eyes is not something out of the ordinary, people will even joke "So how was the dance?"

Ha ha, yes. She is a bit of a local Helen here. She is indeed beautiful, one would not see someone so good looking in big cities in weeks usually and potential grooms from all neighbouring villages and towns have lost their sleep because of her apparently. She is also very "proper" and would not go on dates outside of her house. The only way for guys to spend time with her is to come to her house for lunch or dinner or to watch a movie, work in the garden, etc.

Wow that is cheap for a house 2000 Euro.  Sounds like you have quite the project ahead. 

The boys must be twitter pated.  It happens, as soon as there is a pretty girl involved fights begin.  It's a whole testosterone thing I am sure.  Just be thankful alcohol wasn't in the mix.  Reminds me of something the country singer Ronnie Hawkins would say never mix boys with alcohol and girls because there is bound to be a fight.

Yes, this is how much old houses cost here in the village.
Teenage boys here can be a handful. Alcohol was not involved this time but they don't need alcohol to be stupid at this age.

Teenagers are a handful everywhere. They're at that stage in life between childhood and adulthood, hormones are raging, and they're all mixed up.

Hopefully with age they mellow out some. Become more mature.

Put them to work on the house.  Physical activity lots of physical activity.  Keep them busy so they don't have time to fight.  Then by the end of the day they'll be too tired to fight.  Just gotta put all that energy they have to some constructive work.

They are very energetic here and I am sure they will still have some energy left for an odd fight. They do work a lot though and they work well, very hardworking bunch Moldovans are and take nothing for granted. But as soon as a woman appears anywhere in their field of vision, that's it, they just watch her their jaws dropping , etc, ha ha. One of our team leaders saw how they looked at a girl here and was like "Wow, I never knew that looking can actually be worse than touching sometimes". Seventeen year olds!
