Narrow streets..Just like Rue St Paul in Montreal Quebec  actually. 

I imagine they have increased security given the terrorist attacks last year.

This is Le Marais, the old Paris and home to the Jewish neighbourhood (hence such a heavy police presence). Paris is full of wide boulevards too.

Montreal has wide streets too outside the Vieux Port area.  The Vieux Port is an historical site and tourist magnet.  Still it is beautiful with it's old historic buildings and cobble stone streets.  I'm sure there is the odd ghost haunting those streets.  There is an exact replica of Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal.  It's this grand cathedral they light it all in blue lights.
