Wow, that's gorgeous. I wonder what paint they use for such intricate outdoor images? It must surely fade quickly, or do they just re-paint very often...
I don't think they re-paint them often. There are not that many painted churches in Transylvania but Suceava County in the north of Romanian part of Moldova is known for them, they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site too. We will visit the place this summer. They were build around 1400 - 1500 and are still looking good apparently. We will learn all about how they painted them then.
I would be interested to hear what you find out! Our local town has a number of murals, which are now about 20 years old, I think, and sadly faded already. I don't know what paint they used, but clearly it was the wrong stuff!
