My sister-in-law is a foodie and a wine buff. That means that I can never have a drink in peace at my brother's, i.e. without having to talk about woodiness, hints of blackberry, tannins, etc. There is also hardly ever anything to eat at their place except microscopic something on a bed of wild organic rucola and angel tears with shavings of something that costs like a cheap car but tastes like nothing drizzled with extra virgin, ice cold pressed, uber organic, mega fair trade olive oil made from olives picked at dawn and pressed at sunset by spanish virgins while singing opera and crying about all the unfairness in this world.

She is always upset with me when I pick up two nice kebabs on my way to their place for my brother and I to bury our faces in while we are catching up with a beer in the garden before dinner. My brother pretends to be not pleased as well but secretly he always hopes that I do bring the kebabs and he always finishes his right away of course. Both of us are almost 6'7" and grass (however organic and fair trade), angel tears and shavings of stuff just isn't enough to keep us going.

Anyway, we have a tradition that I give my sister-in-law absurd foodie and cooking gadgets as gifts every once in a while. I am going to visit them soon and it is time for another gift. At the moment I am considering these "taste enhancing" forks:

Aparently the forks “exploit the relationship between taste and smell by releasing different aromas that enhance the flavors of food.” Hmmm, that sounds just like my sister-in-law.

"Simply place a drop of your desired aromatic oil on the fork’s built-in diffuser paper and that scent will waft up to your nose just as the bite of food hits your tongue, convincing your brain to meld the two flavors." Oh boy, this is so deliciously nuts, I love it.

Another thing still in the running is this Kouichi Okamoto's glass tank self-refilling glass:

"Glass Tank is a bulb shaped container with a wine glass attached. When the amount in the glass decreases, a constant amount is poured from the tank into the glass. The wine will never overflow because of the balance between air pressure and water pressure."

What do you think? Which one should I get? Or maybe you have seen something else absurd enough to end up as a present for my sister-in-law? Suggestions are much appreciated.

Your fanciful description of olives made me smile. Also, wow, you are tall. I'm not sure, regarding gift suggestions.

I need that wine glass in my life.  I mean that's just ingenious a self filling wine glass.

Is your sister-in-law a vegan or something?  How on earth does her husband survive on grass alone?

Gotta get some carbs in there atleast.

I don't blame you bringing kabobs.   I'd probably do the same or bring an all meat pizza.

It's really nice to hear that you always bring the kabobs - I love that! You have set your own nourishing tradition. :-D
From your description of your SIL, I would say the forks. Definitely the forks.

Good point! I did not think of that probably because this sentence was so funny.

Thank you. These books look like smth she would enjoy. And the dish on the cover of the second book looks like something she would serve: a tiny wad of wet grass on a large empty plate.

My sister-in-law is 5'2". My brother is my hight. She is also super light. He can through her into the air with one hand and catch her with another. They had quite a bit of a problem with their first kiss. The only way to do it was for him to get down on one knee, which was too much for a second date. They found a place not far from her home eventually where there was something to put her on. That first kiss required quite a bit of setting up.

I assume that wine thing has been appropriately designed but it sure looks like if you were drinking out of the glass, the rest of it would just keep pouring into your mouth. Also if your s-i-l subsists on grass and angel tears, she might not be strong enough to lift that thing.

I think the taste-enhancing fork is definitely the weirder and more entertaining of the two :D

She is also 5'2" and I would live to se her with this giant glass. But I think I am going with the forks. I agree they are more interesting.
