On the road

Early next week I am off to Brussels, Amsterdam and London and then I am coming back to close the first stage of the reforestation part of our project here.

I cannot believe that we have done all the work we have done when I look back at it. It feels awesome. I learned much less about forestry than I wanted, but someone had to do all the budgets, donor reports, ministry meetings, etc as well as all the firefighting (of which we had lot). And the rest of the time there wasn't much time for learning as I was one of the volunteers used for heavy and dirty labour (which I loved).

It has been a glorious summer (and autumn).

Good photo. And a good year in your life, as far as I can judge. "Congratulations" sound cheap and empty, but... Congratulations!

Thank you. It was less than a year but it has been great.

What a great feeling knowing that you can be satisfied with your accomplishments

Enjoy the change of scenery!

I always love these train track photos, but aren't you afraid a train will come along?

I could see far enough both ways not to worry about a train coming while I take a quick photo with my phone.

That was a phone photo? Awesome! I'm relieved to learn you could see both ways clearly. So it was as straight behind you as in front of you?

Yes, it is a phone photo, more than half of them in this journal are. I still use my camera every now and then but with phone cameras getting better and better I take it with me less and less often.

Yes, it was almost as straight behind me.

My phone camera is dreadful, it would have made a horrible mess of that scene. My old phone camera was fantastic, I miss it so!

What phone are you using?

Amazing scenery and light :-)

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (the last Galaxy Note with removable battery). The camera is enough for me not to bother taking my camera with me most of the times.

Ah interesting. I will need a new phone eventually, so that's good to know. Thanks! But you've just given me an idea for photos that at least I can set up. I could try my samsung tablet camera, see if that's better than my phone. Totally forgot about its camera!

If you followed this track for about 45 minutes you would end up in Romania.

Neat. All the tracks by my house go to Canada.

Crossing these two borders probably feels somewhat similar. Moldova and Romania share the language as well, so it probably does not feel "really abroad" to the Moldovans and Romanians crossing the border.

I love the perspective on this. Great composition. I always loved to paint and draw and was interested in perspective, and nowadays I work in an engineer's office, drawing houses and bridges that get built. Only straight lines there though!
