New public journals

Update: Please do not hesitate to mention your own journal, this is what this entry is for. Let's make it a bit easier for ourselves to find each other on LJ.

Can you recommend interesting new (or old) public journals on LJ? I guess we all know the old-timers in LJ's top 50 (no harm in repeating those again though maybe someone will still find it useful), but it is hard to find new journals here.

It can be your own journal (don't be shy) or just some journal (or a couple) you read or used to read. You don't need to be friends with the journal owner, like them or agree with them to recommend. The more journals we have thrown in to browse, the better. You can also recommend anonymously.

The journals must be currently alive and public (this is not a friending meme), which doesn't mean that all of the entries in them must be public, just that they have public entries appearing regularly.

You can say a couple of words about the journals but it is not a must since the journals can speak for themselves.

I'll keep this entry at the top of LJ's start page for a while to get more people to contribute but feel free to repost this as well.

I have some nominations of interesting public journals:

zyzyly is a nurse who has a long history of journaling but, sadly, has picked up a habit of not been adding to his very often lately. I so hope this will change. His archives are a great read with lots of good photos to boot.

pink_halen's journal isn't fascinating until.... they go on a trip and, fortunately, they go on lots of great trips. Fabulous photos and neat little facts about things I've never ever seen anywhere else. I don't know where they are going next but I know the journal entries about it will be great.

ertai's journal is interesting but also gets a nice boost when he and his wife go on trips.

And finally, if you are looking for massive detail of daily life on one guy, machupicchu is your man. He has many years of detail and adds more every week. I don't think he even looks at any friends pages any more, just adds his own entries. So, no community but public and available for reading.

Hardly new, but http://andrewducker.livejournal.com/ is a mine of interesting stuff. I only don't follow him directly because I would never get anything done if I read all his links posts, but he does post opinion pieces & other bits on occasion.

http://azdak.livejournal.com/ has been helping out some refugee boys in Germany and I found it fascinating (and alarming!) to hear about her experience with the process of resettling them. She seems like a lovely person.

There's my own journal - mostly public, with a few private locked entries now and then. My journal focuses on art, nature photography, and creative writing, along with some fandom references. I prefer to keep the tone of my LJ welcoming and upbeat.

I understand that it is probably the best known community in the English speaking LJ not a journal and is hard to miss.

I haven't tried it because I do not know much about what is posted there but my niece registered there from my account (with my permission) and I think trolled the hell out of it (I let her do whatever she wanted outside of my journal itself) a couple of times when she stayed with us here a couple of times a while ago. And even though she deleted most of the messages from that community from my inbox promptly I still got tired of it and deleted the community from my list and locked her out of my account (it was getting unhealthy I thought).

This post was more to see if we can find some newish or old but relatively unknown interesting public journals that do not appear in LJ top 100 and therefore are difficult to find. Not much luck so far.

Depending on the day, it can sometimes be in the Top 100, but my group therealljidol tends to have a lot going on when the season is happening.
