and in our last commenting I thought you were more for Trump.. unless I'm thinking of someone else! So you are from the UK and is that your leader? I really need to be more involved in politics, as I've said..

Oh no, I am not pro Trump at all. I would not be able to vote for either Trump or Hillary in the last election. I just do not adopt the "only criticise those you do not like and only praise those you like" model which seems to be almost expected from everyone these days. I am repulsed by Trump, it does not mean that I am not going to notice that Hillary is awful. I am going to say what I think on the issues regardless of whether it is "more Trump" or "more Hillary". For example, I think that it is ridiculous that Trump won the election (but he did win the fair election). But I also think that the protests that are going on now are ridiculous.

This is not UK's prime minister. It is one of the politicians behind Brexit.
I live in London but I am half Danish half Norwegian.

Thanks for letting me know :) sorry, I don't know why I thought it was you I was conversing with that seemed pro Trump, I'm pretty sure that was someone else now since this comment..

... Yeah, I kind of wish I would've voted third party now. I'm going to do a lot more research before the next election. I just , like I said in one of my entries, my dad's voted third party my whole adult life, 34 years, and they NEVER win.. and I just couldn't value voting for Trump and I've always voted Democrat, so I more voted for the party, than voted for Hillary. I wish they would give me a Republican that I could stand.. I couldn't stand Bush Jr either.

I think it was me, I make comments based on which some people often assume that I am either pro-Trump or pro-Hillary because they assume that you have say only good things about the candidate you support and only bad stuff about the other one 9or you are a traitor, etc). And I don't. I kinda agree with this guy's rant about your election ([livejournal.com profile] beautesauvage13 showed this to me):

I get that mindset.. I wasn't even really pro-Hillary, I just voted democratic party but now I'm kind of wishing I'd voted green party although I honestly believe they'll never win :(

My problem with that would be that if we all keep thinking like this then we can always be forced to choose between two evils. Yes, we might not win this time but we have to start to grow.

I'm starting to agree with that, actually. Maybe I just had to vote four times democrat first, lol. I will do heavy research before the next election, I'm already reading more news stories and watching more stuff..

Let us be very clear about this, that is NOT an elected leader of the UK. That is a largely self-appointed racist self-important arsehole. He wasn't even officially a big part of the Brexit campaign because the other Brexiters didn't want to be involved with him.

His name is Nigel Farage. He is the leader of the extremist UK Independence Party, which has ONE elected member of parliament (out of 650).

Well, we didn't vote for him. I'm not proud of who we did vote for, but there is no parallel between Farage and Trump at all in terms of popular support (in terms of 'these are both very unpleasant people' yes, certainly.)

Apparently Fox News have shown coverage of Farage and captioned him as 'UK Opposition leader'.

So it seems we need to be VERY LOUD AND CLEAR about the fact that actually no he is not! He has no official position.

No, if that WAS the UK Prime Minister there would be a bunch of Brits sawing through the elevator cables behind them - as would be our duty in that scenario.

The present Prime Minister of the UK is a lady called Theresa May, she's usually easy to recognise amongst leaders as she's the only one with a penchant for wearing leopard print heels..........well, in public to conferences at any rate, what other world politicians get up to in their private lives is their own business.

I think my grandparents had a mirror that had that "gold leaf" spun through it back from the 70s, I remember what you're talking about now.. I was being kind of sarcastic, but like I said, with Trump you never know!

But you know the media fucks us all.  While we're getting a good fucking from these two the media comes up from behind to make sure we get fucked good and hard.  Then Putin comes along and suddenly it's a gang bang the world kind of thing.

We'll call this the fuck the world porn of 2016.

Yes, this is the photo of the year.

Here Marina Hyde, one of the sharpest Guardian's columnists, "my dear Lady Disdain", produces a fresh portion of rat poison - about Farage, a self-inaugurated ambassador of EU in the Trump Tower (or vice versa). I don't like satyric genre much, but she is a perfection of some sort...

Looks like they were in one of Trump's luxury hotels somewhere.  He owns a few hotels not sure how many or where they all are located.

His hotels have a lot of gold leafing on the walls or any picture I have seen of them shows gold leafing on the walls. I've never actually stayed in any of Trump's hotels.  Most luxury type hotel I ever stayed in was the Wyndham on Royal street in New Orleans.  And that really couldn't be considered really luxury..although it is over $100.00/night USD to stay there usually.  I expect Trump's hotels are probably upwards of $500.00/night USD.   Oh and I walked by the Ritz a few times in New Orleans it's somewhere on St Charles Street..or is it on Prytania?   I forget.

But I digress.  They're probably standing in one of Trump's hotels or the Ritz lol be funny if Trump stayed at a Ritz his competition.

Bah Rich politicians spending the people's tax money.

Here, they say it's Trump Tower. Wiki say it's not a hotel, it's HQ of Trump Organization and his residence.

In US, I've only been in New York, and I love the city. But I always rented an apartment. It's much more comfortable, independent, and even cheaper, because NY hotels are super expensive, especially on Manhattan. $100 is impossible to find. 150, 200, 300 a night, and it's not something luxury at all).

Gold leafing doesn't impress me in a way it meant to. Just a vulgar boasting, nothing else.

From: [identity profile] beautesauvage13.livejournal.com

Yes NY hotels are expensive. Even places like Ramada charge $200+ a night there.  It looks like it might be Trump tower though.  I think the Guardian got it right.

I stayed in NY twice.  Once due to a plane mix up trying to get back home to Canada.  I ended up stuck in Laquardia at 10pm.  That place is huge and very empty at 10pm.  I managed to find someone to help me though. 2 nice ladies working in the baggage claim.  I told them what happened and they booked me a hotel for the night and set me up on the next flight in the morning that would take me to Bangor ME where I was meeting my father who was driving me home.

The 2nd time I stayed longer.  I found this Broadway deal on the Broadway website.  3 nights hotel and tickets to a show for $500.00usd.  So I booked to see the musical Lestat.  Stayed at the Beacon hotel.  That was fun.  I may do that again some day visit NY go see a musical.

Very nice of them to offer tickets together with hotel booking. And quite a reasonable price.

I wish you to have your third time in NY rather like the second one then like the first...

But he is the (ugliest) face of Brexit for many, it was his baby since a long time ago (even though he was not the main face of the actual campaign). And the UK voted for that baby. So to me, if I had to illustrate two biggest political shocks of 2106, Brexit and Trump, this photo would do the job nicely (although not perfectly, yes).

He *was* the face of Brexit, but I think that it was during the campaign the mask that showed a cheery likeable bloke was torn. UKIP no longer has a reason to exist, and Farage has shown himself clearly to be a very nasty piece of work. I am hopeful that we may not see too much more of him. I wish I could say the same of Trump.

*nods in agreement*

I am still living in a state of grief and rage. I know I must get beyond that, and I know I must work in a positive manner to help save the republic, but for now? Definitely grief and rage. The two men in that picture are reflective of an isolationist, nativist, no-nothingist, racist .... argh, they are the grinning faces of toxic, violent ignorance.

I agree, by the way, that one must not indulge in only praising the figures on one's own side. Had Clinton won, my message would have been, "We must work like hell to make sure this corporatish hawk keeps her promises, and make sure she doesn't drift further to the right."
