Wow! Are the roots in the bricks or is there a lot of tree inside with roots in the ground and it also managed to make it outside through the bricks?

That building looks like it's been there a long time.  Amazing that those trees survive there growing out of the bricks.

Yeah, it is an old building built before the Soviet era. It used to be part of the monastery but has been abandoned for more than half a century I think.

Birches are such robust trees, and beautiful. They are the first to colonise the old arsenic mines here too.

I do like the contrast between the white trunks and random leaves and the red regularity of the bricks. I think the trees are slowly winning...

We have our own birch grove next to the house we bought in the village, it is really beautiful. Birches also look awesome in front of Tate Modern in London.
