I guess Kim has been feeling offended and microaggressed recently. This is probably the world's largest safe space these days. I like how they had to warn against the use of "This is all America's fault".

North Korean Citizens Warned Against 'Hostile' Speech

North Korean citizens have recently been warned against the use in casual conversation of sarcasm directed against the regime of national leader Kim Jong Un, with state security officers threatening that even indirect criticisms of party leadership will not be forgiven, North Korean sources say.

“The main point of the lecture was ‘Keep your mouths shut!’” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Warning his listeners to guard against being “dragged into internal hostile behavior,” the official conducting the meeting pointed specifically to commonly used expressions such as “This is all America’s fault,” which when spoken ironically could be taken to imply criticism of the regime.

“This habit of the central authorities of blaming the wrong country when a problem’s cause obviously lies elsewhere has led citizens to mock the party,” RFA’s source said.

Another expression, “A fool who cannot see the outside world,” has also spread quickly from government workers in Pyongyang who were shocked at Kim Jong Un’s absence at celebrations held in Russia and China to mark the end of the Second World War, the source said.

My g+ is filled with "dropped my sandwich: THANKS, OBAMA!" relatives of this. But I do wonder if the censors have just discovered sarcasm, or if this is a sign of widespread dissent.

I think it is the latter. Apparently the dissent there has been growing faster than ever these days. There are now even anti Kim graffiti, which having visited the place sounds absolutely impossible to me. Doing graffiti there would be like saying that something is not racist in the US.

Two generations away from the Great Leader, and news of the outside world sneaking in slowly: I can see how dissent might rise. Hard to imagine it succeeding in that land, though.

We are now based in a post-Soviet country and people here tell us over and over again that they could never imagine that Soviet Union would fall down and apart and as quickly as it did.

Gorbachev actively assisted that, though. It's hard to imagine that happening here. I hope you're right, and I hope it's as graceful.

I am not saying that it will here. But at some point these things start falling apart much quicker than anyone could have expected (although up to that point they do last much longer than anyone could have expected too).

Yes, Gorbachev assisted that but he was part of that system too, so at certain point it malfunctioned to allow Gorbachev to appear and start actively assisting the fall down of the empire.

"Ah, Obama, what have you done?!" - a popular political joke when something goes wrong in Russia...
