So now that the summer is over, are you looking forward to this, guys?

I took this one in Novi Sad, Serbia.

I am not looking forward to it at all and am going to run away to Singapore for three months where I can start my day with a swim in the sea, spend the day in shorts and t-shirt and end it with a couple of drinks on the beach. Will go to Japan to ski for a week from there, one week skiing is all the winter I need these days.

No, actually I dread winter.  The farmers almanac says we here are in for alot of snow and freezing cold.  I keep trying to find some way to move to the Carribean or maybe Singapore.  If we get a winter like we had 2 yrs ago I may just leave Canada anyway.

We got a total of 500cm of snow in 2 months that winter 2 yrs ago.  We were buried until June.

Winter always depresses me.

I hate snow.  I hate the cold.

For me snow is not as bad as those winter rains much of Europe gets. But yeah, I would run away even from a snowy winter.

You can stay dry in snow, and then you're merely cold. It is much harder to do so in rain, where it's easy to become hypothermic.

Yes, winter rain robs me of the outside more than the snow does. And also of light, it is much brighter on snowy days compared to winter rainy days.

Actually you still get wet in snow.  I know because I have lived in snow all my life.  What happens is the snow gets on your cloths then when you go inside with the snow still on your cloths because it sticks there and won't brush off that sticky snow melts and then you are cold wet and frustrated.  Then there is this other beast in winter called slush.  Basically it snows then at some point during the day/night the temperature rises a fraction and you get this thing we call snain.  Snain being a mix of snow and rain which causes slush.  Walk in the slush; because they don't plough the roads here adequately enough and forget side walks they don't plough those at all ;you get wet.  Then some times we get this thing called freezing rain which is a whole other wintery nightmare.  This stuff freezes on contact, get enough of it and you get down Power lines downed trees everywhere.  If you can walk on the roads that are skating rinks you will get wet.

Winter is a hell.  White, cold, wet, slippery, miserable Hell.

You really feel strongly about this. You have to move!

Yes, I do have to move, atleast for 6 months of the year.  As soon as I can afford such a move I will.

I have this clever plan. Buy a house in New Zealand and one in Iceland. Spend summer in New Zealand... and then summer in Iceland. I even have a friend who hates sunlight and heat, who says he'll take the swing shift. Now we just have to do it.

From: [identity profile] topum.livejournal.com
That would be a great plan if only Iceland actually had summer. I have been spoiled by Singapore, now that is summer. I used to love winter and I suffered a lot from the heat in Singapore when I just moved there with all aricons always at full blast, etc. I was convinced that the place should not have been considered habitable even. But then living there totally transformed me in this respect, I almost did not use aircon in my house there at all by the end of my stay, the breeze thorough the windows and fans was enough. This transformation was very surprising to me. I did miss the seasons there but a week of each spring, autumn and winter (can get it in "nearby" in Japan or Korea for example) was enough for me.

Man, I've been living in Denver for years, and even though we have almost no humidity, I'm still not used to 35-45C days during the summer. My wife, however, loves it. She was cold the whole time we were in Iceland, and that was in late June when it's warmest. I keep telling her we can just dig a big hole in the back yard and when it fills with water it'll be a hot tub.

It pretty much hoovers around 30C all the time in Singapore (with about 24C at night) with high humidity though. I used to be most comfortable at around 20C, a true northerner. But I enjoyed how non-restrictive Singapore climate felt, with permanently no borders of any kind between the inside and the outside. Same very basic clothes inside and outside, day or night. Get in the water any time for however long you want (one hour swim at 2am - any day of the year), get out and just put your t-shirt back on. Walk under the rain at night, etc, etc. And yes, every hole in the ground is a hot tub.

Yeah a good plan if only NZ had a summer too.

So [livejournal.com profile] randomdreams seems to have gone too far away from the equator in both hemispheres then.

Yes I think so!

Singapore is a bit close I'd imagine though

Actually, I am very much looking forward to living in a place with winter and all 3 other seasons. Hawaii has been fun to make as our home and all, but I am a Northern Grrrl at heart!

I am a Northern boy too but these days I am happiest with North, ice and snow in my heart but South, sun and sea outside my window ).

You're a boy?! I don't know why I assumed you were a girl. Maybe because 95% of us on here are girls!

I, OTOH, living in the southern hemisphere, have just lived through your picture above and am veryyyy glad for the upcoming warmer weather!

Maybe not re-read but read it, ha ha ).
I don't mind if you keep me in your mind as a girl either for the purpose of reading this journal ). Just keep in mind that I would be one hell of a girl, I am 6'7" and have been boxing for 15 years ).

Date: 2016-09-05 11:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] claypot.livejournal.com
Yes I did read somewhere else that you are very tall, so I presumed that you were .. a very tall girl. Didn't catch the boxing part!

Yes I would be a hell of a girl judging by the entries like this for example ):

One 6'7" girl, 37 guys and a bath tub full of bear! Hell yeah, I am one hell of a girl, ha ha.

Hahaha! A very popular, very tall badass girl! I must've missed the entry, because I recall the picture of the kitten before it, and the Jewish man after it!

Hey please do one of those "get to know me" thingos! WHO ARE YOU. WHAT IS A TOPUM.

I actually feel bad that you now know that I am a boy. It would be so cool if you kept reading this journal thinking I was a girl. I just thought about it and it changes everything actually. I would be a really awesome, badass girl who came to rural Moldova to drive a tractor, play soccer in all boys team, drink beer from a bathtub with 37 Moldovan guys, jump in the middle of fights between 17 year old local boys and push them to the ground, go skinny dipping in lakes with local guys (!), not get all girly and friendly with my SIL but just make fun of her while burying my face in giant kebabs with my brother. Wow, I would be a hell of a girl! But as a boy I am just...meh, ha ha. Now that you know that I am not a girl I do not get to be awesome anymore ).

OH YEAH! The funny rabbit octopus plush toy! I thought maybe you just didn't like your SIL very much. Hahha!

Well, in my mind I always thought you were there with another male who was either your partner or husband of sorts, who then kinda looked out for you if you went skinny dipping, and MAYBE you were a tomboy, I don't know, or just a rather masculine girl. It NEVER occured to me that you're a boy! So yes now that I know you're a boy ... you're just doing boy things. Right. Not so intriguing anymore. Hahaha!

And I am so happy that I am a boy, because if I were a girl, I believe it would be such a struggle to find that "another male who was either your partner or husband of sorts" with my seriously hairy ass. And now I believe you have all the mental images you need to ruin this journal for you forever. Well, we had to finish what we started, ha ha.

I just look forward to stability now that summer is gone.

Do you travel a lot for your job?

Date: 2016-09-05 03:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] topum.livejournal.com
I used to travel a lot for my job but I am lucky to have been able to retire very early. I have some investments in Singapore though, which require some of my involvement. I worked and lived in Singapore for a while.

Why summer means less stability for you?

I seeee. How fun though!

Will have a new job any day now. Hasn't been a very fun or eventful summer w/ the stress of no job.

A week or ten days of skiing is enough for me these days. I used to be a fan of winter but living in Singapore completely transformed me in this respect.

I like rain, but maybe not that much rain.

Btw, I got a Livejournal reminder that your birthday is coming up on Wednesday, so in case I'm not here that day, Happy Birthday!

Date: 2016-09-05 04:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] topum.livejournal.com
This is not my real birth date, mine is a bit further down the line still but thank you anyway. I have never celebrated birthdays though. I think you get your birthday only once in a lifetime and that is on the actual day you are born. It sucks that generally we are unable to celebrate it then and have to rely on others to have fun instead.

I do like rain too, Singapore summer rain for example. Winter rain in Copenhagen not so much, one day a year would be enough for me.

You can turn off the birthday reminders on Lj.

On your profile, you can set "Show your Birthday to: Nobody", and then it shouldn't send any reminders either.

But then you cannot join some of the communities here I think.

Even if you can, I leave it to others to choose what reminders they want to receive or not receive through adjusting the settings in their journals. I do it that way myself too.

I am not a hot weather person. This summer has been far too hot for me. I like cold weather but I could do without having to drive to work in the snow. Though it does remind me I should probably schedule someone to come check out our furnace sometime in the next couple months. Autumn is my favorite, I hope we get a decent one this year.

I used to be very much not a hot weather person. The first couple of months in Singapore were pure hell for me. But now I am a convert and very comfortable being close to the equator.
