I bet these three didn't vote

So when I called the Moldovan election the least important presidential election in the world (see here) I was definitely wrong. It's gotta be the Transnistrian one, which has just happened. I was told that the average turnout was estimated at slightly over 25 percent. Apparently it is so unimportant that even Transnistrians themselves don't give a damn about it.

And I thought I'd post some random Transnistrians from Tiraspol to celebrate. I bet these three didn't vote.

In Tiraspol, Transnistria, Moldova.

Wow.  Only 25% voted..that's worse then the US where I think it was reported 46% did not vote.

And ultra pro-Russia guy won again. Overwhelmingly. They didn't even need the second round.

Don't get the not voting thing. But eh.
The puffer jacket thingies are fascinating though!

I get the no voting thing in cases like Zimbabwe's for example (where you know that the election will be completely falsified). Otherwise, I would always vote. I would not have been able to vote for either Trump or Clinton in the last US election though. That was my first major hypothetical "I can't vote" occasion.

True re falsified elections.

Yes I was glad I wasn't a US citizen for that election. *meep*

What nationality are you, if you don't mind me asking?

Although it's compulsory to vote here, I still think of all those people who fought and died for the right to vote and I can't understand, even in countries where it isn't compulsory, how people can value that right so little.

Ah right. So are you one of those people going to be affected by Brexit?

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-12-13 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes but throughout our lives all of us are affected by many things constantly and I never was stressed about Brexit. This is not WWII or some other challenges faced by a couple of preceding generations. I also never joined the camp of vilifying Brexiteers. People have voted and that's what they voted for, it is OK, even though it is very inconvenient for me and not what I would have voted for. It is also not the end of the world or UK.

Makes a lot of sense.
