Fifteen minutes to winter

This is what I saw around our village today:

Then I drove 15 minutes north (and up) to one of the neighbouring villages and the scenery changed to this:

Is the second village on higher ground?

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is. But not very significantly. It still was enough fo that much of a difference today.

What a beauty.

Double-like!

I really liked how abrupt the change was, you can almost see the line between fall and winter.

We have micro climates here around Seattle like that. I am from the East Coast of the U.S. where this kind of thing is very foreign, but here (and apparently in Moldova) it's truly a thing! And, I think it's really neat.

Yes, it is awesome. The transition is so sudden, it is almost a line you cross into winter.

I used to live in San Francisco, where there were foggy neighborhoods and sunny ones. But nothing this dramatic.

Wow, that's quite a change for a 15 minute drive.

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah and it is awesome.

That tree in the second picture is so beautiful.

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
All of the trees along the road looked like that, it was great.

Wow.  What a difference 15mins makes.

Indeed. It makes it for fun quick trip.

It's like you can go visit winter for an hour or so and when you've had enough cold and snow you can go back to Autumn.  Now if mother nature could make like summer and winter 15mins apart that would be great.

Oh yeah, that would be awesome.

How beautiful! I love it when you get frost forming that effect on trees, freezing mist, is it? It's stunning.

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is freezing mist. All trees are like that there and it looks stunning. Some of our volunteers drove there just to take pictures of themselves in front of those trees.

jesus, looks like canada... one minute fantastic, the next "dead of winter".

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It was not a change of weather, this is how those two places 15 minutes away from each other looked at the same time. This is due to the difference in altitude and extreme microclimates.

i realize that, i can read. i was merely making a joking comparison.

You can read! Phew, that's a relief. )
