If you had 45 seconds with your 18-year-old self, what would you tell yourself?

Don't go to college, it is a total waste of time.

1. Go away to college and don't look back
2. Get real about your gender identity, because you KNOW, and find out how to come out

Don't marry that girl, you will be very bad for each other.

There are no failures only opportunities to learn.

I probably wouldn't, because though it has been a hard and painful road at times, all of that lead me to being the person that I am today.

If I wanted to spare myself some pain....

1. Don't let others push you away from getting a tech degree - you're here to learn, you don't have to know everything already.
2. That guy you think is kind of a dick is actually a total dick. Get out of it before it gets way worse.
3. You don't love yourself yet, but you will. There are a lot of people who will try to make you feel even shittier about yourself than you already do. It will pass.
4. Spend time and money only on those people and things that make your heart truly happy.

And then maybe a couple of stock suggestions for my last 5 seconds :D

Stock and betting recommendations. Fuck all that "it will make you a better person" shit.

1. Learn to tell people"no". This is the art of life.
2. Don't make compromises, they destroy you and don't bring what you expect of them.
3. Study, read, work, don't waste time on "relationship". Study, reading, and and work build you; "relationship" destroys.
4. Live near the ocean. It gives you the sense of proportions and helps to diminish your sense of self-importance.
5. All is vanity except for your work (≠ job) and your children.

How much time would 2 have saved you?

It is a great practical one. I would probably have gone with something like this rather than the deep philosophical ones. Because those deep ones are not about just hearing them, I still wouldn't have listened.

Are you sure you would go with something as generic and non-specific to you? You probably heard it many times by the time you were 18 anyway?

You life would be totally different now, right?
I wonder if you can imagine the person you would be now.

I like this practical approach. Not because I think "it will make you a better person" shit doesn't matter but mostly because I do not think you can really help anyone much with that just by talking to them for 45 secs.

I expected the full ten commandments from you ). They would have to be really short though as you would have only 4.5 secs for each of them.

I know. I have much more, I decided to give a short version. 8 seconds will be enough for each one and + 5 seconds for a very broad smile. (We must be kind with these stupid youngsters, mustn't we?)

Yes it was said to me often when I was young.

I think something specific to me I would say is:
When you go into the Ursuline convent go up the stairs into the attic.  Crawl under the rope and go.  Don't look back.  When security comes act innocent and tell them you didn't know it was a non public area.  Then ask them what's in the attic anyway.

Go to an in-state, public university and live as cheaply as possible because you don't want student loans later.
