Almost president

This is Igor Dodon, the guy who got most votes in yesterday's first round of the presidential election here in Moldova (I talked about it here).

In Moldova you still can get some one-to-one time with main presidential candidates to discuss your concerns like this woman did. His reaction to me taking this photo made it clear he wasn't getting papped much.

For someone running for presidency of a country he looks awful nervous.  Like a "newbie" politician that hasn't been corrupted yet by power and money.

Politicians often have this blank look-like the lights are on but nobody is home look.  He doesn't have that look.

I mean compare his look to say Hilary or Trump.  Hilary or Trump have the lights are on no one is home look.  A lot of movie stars have the same look. Tom Cruise is a master of it.  It's the we sold our soul to fame, money and power look.

Justin Trudeau mastered it.  He didn't quite have it at the beginning but now that he's been prime minister for a while he has it.

The Moldovans I was with told me that he reacted like he did because he could immediately see that I was a foreigner and he did not expect foreign photographers in that small village and found it surprising. He is not new to politics, he used to be a minister. Can you imagine Hillary talking to someone one-to-one in the street like this with all those other people in the background not giving a damn and just going about their lives, haha?
it is quite different from this: )

This is a really interesting observation.

There are so many pictures that people take with celebrities that look like pictures that people would take with cardboard cutouts of those same celebrities. The celebrities just cannot engage with the other people in the photo in any meaningful way because they are exposed to so many new people all the time, and these types of events must be grueling.

It's interesting how the Slavic head scarf is still popular with the younger crowd in Moldova... Normally only grannies wear it.

This is because it was next to the village church and they were going in for the service soon.
I don't think they consider it Slavic here though.

Lol, he talks to her but looks at you.

His reaction to getting photographed surprised me. it was almost like "Oh wow, you want to take a photo of me here? Really? Why?" which I thought was strange for a leading presidential candidate at an official public event in a public place during his campaign.

Hard to believe he is only 40. So he is basically a couple of years younger than, say Jared Leto.

Don't know who that other dude is but yeah, I also think he looks quite a bit older than his age.

The clothing of the women in this photo.. I'm assuming that's the country's cultural dress? (Sorry if I'm wrong)

[identity profile] topum.livejournal.com 2016-11-01 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, no it isn't but it is their "going to church" clothes. The woman talking to the candidate is dressed unusually for this place (I guess she is some kind of local rebel haha).
