Snack

When we come to someone's house between lunch and dinner to talk about something we are often served home-made buttermilk and freshly baked bread, often warm to snack while talking. It is a great snack, I really like it.

It is. It became one of my favourite snacks here.

It is very simple but very tasty. I am a big fan now, we have it very often here.

I have always liked buttermilk.

They have different varieties here, so far we have probably seen five. They differ from each other very slightly but noticeably.

Oh, bread-and-flowers with sour cream! Delicious...

I am a big fan of this now. The locals like it a snack and we have it very often with them. They make it here from scratch, the milk comes from the local cows and flower for the bread is made locally from wheat grown just next to the village. Very simple but very tasty.

I agree, it's a very good food. Strangely, you can meet it only in Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, and some eastern european countries, but not worldwide. The same thing about white cheese called "tvorog" in russian (your hosts must have offered it to you) - eastern-european countryside variant of it is much better than just white cheese in western supermarkets.

Oh yes, cottage cheese is very popular here, they make their own and we often have it for breakfast with some sour cream. Their cottage cheese is not salty here.

That's neat.

It is. We are becoming more and more local in our habits. Snacking on this is one of the habits we picked up.
