But yeah, I was told that it would be very difficult for the loser to keep seeing the girl. So it was over who would keep seeing her, everything else was just a pretext. The way it works apparently is not that the girl chooses the winner but that the loser stops seeing the girl himself. The girl was not supposed to know the fight ever happened.
