They had a lot of statues in Orchard Road for Formula 1 Night Race and someone placed small soft toys on or next to all of them. This Merlion (Singapore's national symbol) made of tyres got this monkey couple on its tail.

Yes, it was an unusual thing to do and it really made people smile.

Merlion interesting creature.  Not ever heard of a merlion before.  Mermaid and Merman yes.  Not ever seen a sculpture made of tires before either.  So very cool.

Merlion is everywhere in Singapore.

According to Wiki the Merlion is the "national personification" of Singapore.  The symbol originally designed by Alec Fraser - Brunner.

The fish tail representing Singapore ' s origins as a fishing village and the lion head representing Singapore ' s original name "singapura".

Kind of interesting.

I once met a preacher at a party in Singapore and he was trying to tell me that Singapore was the New Jerusalem and that Merlion is the Lion of Judah which got the fish tail to swim from Israel to Singapore. It was the moment I realised that he probably had one too many of those free drinks and that I should have been way more selective with the parties I attended.

I read 'merlion' and pronounced it in my head 'merl-yee-on' and it took me a while to realize it was mer-lion. That's neat!
