Where to go?

We are thinking about going away for the weekend and are choosing between Odessa, which is on the Black Sea in Ukraine and Constanta, which is also on the Black Sea but in Romania.

Both cities are their respective countries' largest ports. Odessa is slightly over 110 miles away, Constanta is a bit further away at 285 miles.

Odessa is a Russian speaking city even though it is in Ukraine. We were told that in Soviet Union it was known as one of the most Jewish cities in the USSR and also as the "capital of humour" (yes, I also struggled to put "USSR" and "humour" together in a sentence). It was founded in 1794 by a decree of the Empress Catherine the Great and was known as "Southern Palmyra" and "pearl of the Black Sea".

Constanta is the oldest city in Romania, Ovid used to live in exile there. It is about three times smaller than Odessa (which has a population of about a million).

I think we are leaning towards Odessa.

Not quite something that far away. Besides I couldn't give you advice on where to go for the weekend. I've never been to either place.

I think there are a couple of Odessas in the US and you were joking.

OK, what I'm totally not getting is that I commented to this post as soon as it appeared, and I saw I was the first to comment. Now, after I look at all the comments, I am dead last, and judging by the time stamps, all your other comments appeared the day before.

This is the second post of your that I've noticed that that has happened on.

Definitely something on your side, I saw all the comments above yours when you commented. If you have a slow internet connection than it takes a while for the comments to load once you click on an entry or on "comment" on a particular entry and while all the comments are loading it looks like there are no comments yet. For me, sometimes it is quick and sometimes it takes longer but never longer than 20 secs. If you saw your own comment though than this is unlikely to be the explanation. I have never heard anything like this before and have never experienced anything like this myself here. The comments in my journal do not need to be unscreened by me and appear as they are posted.

Next time, I'll note day and time in my time zone, and see how it appears in the comment itself.

The comments I leave always appear when I post them. I have never heard anybody reporting a similar issue either. Would be interesting to hear your findings.

What I know so far is that my comments are four hours behind the UTC time noted in each comment.

But honestly, as soon as this post of yours appeared yesterday morning I commented on it, and the time was right: close to 10am Sept. 8 my time (4 hours further listed in the comment). But all the comments that are now above mine are stamped Sept. 7.

So peculiar!
